Class 455/7 EMU

The 4-Car Class 455 units were introduced by British Rail for suburban services from London Waterloo and Victoria. These trains were built to the same external design as the Class 317 but used recycled traction equipment from old 4-SUB units.

The 455/7 was built in 1984/85 and featured a cleaned up front end with light clusters and smoothed roof dome. These units incorporated a trailer second from the Class 508 units, which gave a strange appearance in service.

Following privatisation, these units passed to South West Trains / SWR. All units remain in service and are currently in SWT red with South Western Railway logos.
