Class 455/9 EMU

The 4-Car Class 455 units were introduced by British Rail for suburban services from London Waterloo and Victoria. These trains were built to the same external design as the Class 317 but used recycled traction equipment from old 4-SUB units.

The Class 455/9s were the last to be built and were all allocated to the South Western division.

Following privatisation, these units passed to South West Trains and subsequently SWR. All units remain in service and are currently in SWT red with South Western Railway logos but will be phased out over the next few years in favour of Class 701 units.
