Class 488 / 489 Gatwick Express EMU Sets

In an attempt to improve the image of the link from Victoria to Gatwick Airport, British Rail introduced the Gatwick Express service in 1984 using InterCity Mk2 air conditioned coaches and Class 73 locomotives in place of the previous 4-VEG EMUs.

In true Southern Region style, the Gatwick Express sets utilised existing equipment with the Mk2 coaches formed into permanent Class 488 sets and a Class 489 GLV motor luggage van converted from a 2-HAP EMU driving car.

The Electra Rail Graphics sets are available in various liveries and in 5 or 8 car sets of Mk2s.
