East Coast began operation in 2009 on the ECML from Kings Cross to Scotland and Yorkshire following the failure of National Express. This franchise ran under direct government control until 2015 when Virgin Trains and Stagecoach took over.
The HST fleet had recently been refurbished by National Express, so all sets retained their livery with revised branding.
Over time, many of the power cars were repainted in plain grey livery but only one set, EC64 obtained the full East Coast Grey.
